When selecting a peridot gemstone, and to ensure you acquire a truly exceptional piece, look for a vibrant, rich green color, indicative of high-quality peridot. The stone should be eye-clean, meaning it has no visible inclusions or blemishes to detract from its clarity and brilliance. Pay attention to the cut, which should be precise and well-proportioned to maximize the gem’s natural sparkle and luminosity. Carat weight and the stone’s origin are important. Larger stones are more rare and more valuable. Peridot from locations like Pakistan, Myanmar, and Arizona are valued for their superior quality. Ensure the peridot has a good level of hardness, around 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, to ensure resistance to scratches.

To clean your peridot ring, mix mild dish soap with warm water and soak for 15-20 minutes. Gently scrub the peridot and setting with a soft-bristled toothbrush, focusing on areas where dirt accumulates. Rinse the ring under lukewarm water, ensuring no soap residue remains. Dry with a soft, lint-free cloth and polish the metal band with a jewelry polishing cloth. Store the ring in a soft pouch or separate compartment in your jewelry box to prevent scratches. Peridot, admired for its vibrant green shades, belongs to the Olivine mineral family found in ultramafic rocks, mostly in Myanmar, Pakistan, Brazil, China, parts of the Southwestern U.S., and Hawaii. Olivine’s composition includes magnesium and iron silicates that influence the depth of its green color. Gem quality Olivine is called peridot. The most sought-after peridot color is a brilliant lime green, a sign of a high-quality stone. Variations include deep, olive green, or yellowish-green tones and occasionally greenish-brown hues.
